Anti-Jamming

[Hisaya Odori - Nagoya Branch] [16:30]
You find Otome and Fumi discussing something...

Otome: ...Well, Fumi? Does anything come to mind in regards to that Septentrione?

Fumi: Hmm. It does and it doesn't...
Fumi: ...Hey, it's Hiro. Do you have business with me too?

> Our attacks don't work.
> It desummons demons.
> We can't summon anything.

Otome: Oh! I came to consult Fumi on the same subject. I thought a specialist might know more...

Fumi: So I was right. Benny, hmm? Our attacks are ineffective...
Fumi: And it sends back our demons, preventing more from being summoned... This is a poser.

> How does it do that?
Fumi: No idea. But if you don't mind a little speculation, I can come up with a theory.

> How can we stop it?
Fumi: ...You ask that without any concrete data? All I can give you is speculation.

Otome: Speculation will be fine. Please go on, Fumi.

Fumi: Well... when it comes to our demon summong spell...
Fumi: The one we used at JP's came from that strange guy, who gave it to the Chief's ancestors.
Fumi: You got yours from Nicaea, which means it can be traced back to the same guy.

> Right.
Fumi: Mm-hm. All of our summoning spells come from one source.

> Really?
Fumi: ...You're not thinking, are you? Just give it some thought and you can figure this out.
Fumi: Listen... This means that all of our summoning spells come from the same source.

Fumi: Now... we can summon demons with that spell, but we can also dismiss them.
Fumi: So our friend Benny must be interrupting our spell and hijacking it.

Otome: He's doing what...?

Fumi: Yep. There's more to the summoning app than what's stored in our terminals.
Fumi: It accesses a remote location based on the coordinates saved to the terminal...
Fumi: It requests the summoned demon's blueprint, if you will, which is sent to our terminal.
Fumi: The blueprint is used to shape the dark matter, Magnetite, in the space around us...
Fumi: ...converting it into matter used to recreate and manifest the summoned demon.

> I see.
Otome: Huh...? You understood that, Hiro? Am I too old to wrap my mind around this...?

Fumi: Wow, impressive. I kept it simply, but I still didn't think you'd really get it.

> Uh... what?
Otome: Hmm... I'm sorry, but I don't understand either.

Fumi: Uhh, you don't have to. I was just setting up my theory.

Fumi: The important thing is that it queries somewhere and there's an exchange of information.

> Where does it query?
Fumi: Haha, I couldn't possibly tell you that. But I can explain how it works.

> "Queries"...?
Fumi: I can't explain that part. Think of it as a black box. But I can explain how it works.

Otome: Huh? You can...?

Fumi: First... summoning spells can be digitized and kept in devices like cell phones.
Fumi: Second... they can transmit over long distances for things like phone calls or email.
Fumi: We take these two data points and ask what the terminal and receiver have in common...
Fumi: One guess is a kind of special wave that's similar to, but unlike, radio or sound waves.

Otome: Err... Data points? Terminals? Special waves...?
Otome: Hang on, I don't really understand what you mean... Can you simplify it a little?

Fumi: You don't...? I'm explaining it in as simple terms as I know how.
Fumi: Well... If I were to use an example...
Fumi: With normal phones, you access websites through radio waves, right?
Fumi: The way the summoning app works is similar in that it involves the special waves.

Otome: Hmm... I see. I guess I'm starting to understand...?

Fumi: Which brings us to the problem of Benny's shutdown of our summoning app.
Fumi: It's like it's hacking the summoning app's special waves to hijack our communications.
Fumi: That way, it can return our summoned demons and cancel our summons at will.

> Can we block it?
Fumi: I don't know... Normal waves can be cancelled out with a counter frequency, but...

> What are these waves?
Fumi: Who knows...? I wouldn't have any idea where to start.
Fumi: A normal wave could be canceled out with a counter frequency, but...

Fumi: This won't be that easy. We're up against the unknown. There's no ready-made solution.

> What would work?
Fumi: I don't know... The only I can think to use would be demons.

> Rare waves...
Fumi: Right... It's a hard one. Rare waves... All I can think to use would be demons.

Otome: Demons? Oh, like with Shiva and Kama. So we'll summon one with special powers...
Otome: But is there a demon like that? One that can control these special waves, I mean?

Fumi: Well, there are some... I can think of a few with that ability.

> Can you elaborate?
> Such as?

Fumi: Uhh, well... The sound waves that Trumpeter employs are one example.

Otome: "Trumpeter"? What a charming name for a demon. I played brass in high school band.

Fumi: ...Even though you're tone deaf? I recall some "special" sound waves at JP's karaoke...

Otome: How rude! Then should we use my singing to cancel out Benetnasch's power?
Otome: Oh, but Fumi... What exactly will this canceling-out do?

Fumi: Erm... Ugh, more difficult explanations. Well, to use an example...
Fumi: Having Trumpeter's melody block Benny's communication would be like jamming its signal.
Fumi: That way, Benny wouldn't be able to hijack anything, right?
Fumi: Even the great Benny won't have control of our demons then.

Otome: Jamming? That sounds good! I think that just might work.

> Where is he?
Otome: Oh, right. Silly me. Haha, you really are on top of things, Hiro.
Otome: First we need to find it... If all goes well, maybe then we can take on Benetnasch.

> That's worth trying.
Otome: Yes, let's give it a try. This way, we may be able to prevent Benetnasch's strange power.
Otome: So Fumi, where might we find Trumpeter?

Fumi: Oh, you really want to try this? Well... I guess it's worth a shot, but...
Fumi: I don't know where Trumpeter is sealed. The Chief keeps track of all that.

> I'll look into it.
> I'll try to find it.

Otome: I appreciate it. I'll let everyone else know-- we can find it faster together!

Fumi: ...Well, let me know if you have any luck. I'll try to do what I can.

You say your farewells to Otome and Fumi before leaving...
