Poisonous Day

[Minato - Shiba Park] [8:00]
You find Daichi staring at something...

Daichi: Oh... Hey there, Hiro.

> What's the matter?
Daichi: I found something unusual. Look at this...

> What're you doing here?
Daichi: Well... How should I put this? I found something unusual. Look...

> Are you bored?

You follow Daichi's gaze to Yamato, who's looking at the sky with other JP's members...

> Let's go over there.
> Let's go talk to him.

Daichi: Huh? You're gonna talk to him!? Hey, Hiro...!

Yamato: ......

> What's the matter?
Yamato: ...Ah, Hiro. There's something on my mind...

> You see something?
Yamato: ...Ah, Hiro. The sky, obviously...

> Something bothering you?

Yamato: Since dawn, neurotoxin deaths have been on the rise in Tokyo. Who do you think's behind it?

> Ronaldo.
Yamato: Hahaha... You've a long way to go as commander. That man would never have the nerve.
Yamato: The casualties keep rising, but there's no witnesses or data. It's the Septentriones.

> Septentriones.
Yamato: Hm... Correct. You're quick to assess a situation.
Yamato: The casualties keep rising, but there's no witnesses or data. It must be them.

Yamato: Extrapolating from the time of the outbreak and the cases seen so far...
Yamato: The enemy is moving in a linear fashion at a constant speed.
Yamato: For optimal distribution of the toxin, it would have to be flying overhead...

> Amazing.
Yamato: What do you mean? It's the natural conclusion to draw.

> I see...
Yamato: It's just a theory, but I don't see any holes in it.

Yamato: It's target... is here.

> The tower, you mean.
Yamato: Right. It will definitely go after towers.

> Shiba Park?
Yamato: That's right. Tokyo Tower is just past this park... It will definitely go after that.

Yamato: The towers are strategically vital. We must defend them at any cost.

> Why?
> What's with the towers?

Yamato: Ah... That's right. I ought to let you know.
Yamato: I said to you once that JP's has the burden of protecting Japan from the supernatural.

> Yes...
Yamato: Mm... And you did a superb job at the time. I should thank you again for that.

> What was this?
Yamato: Before the battle against Merak. Don't you remember...?

Yamato: We of the Hotsuin learned of the Dragon Stream long ago. With the ancient incantations...
Yamato: We created a spell that draws on its power to be used in any shape or form we desire.
Yamato: After the war, it was applied to build these towers to defend against all foreign invasion.

> It creates a barrier?
Yamato: Quite keen of you... That is correct. The tower focuses the Dragon Stream into a barrier.

> How does it protect us?
Yamato: Haha... It creates a barrier. One that cannot be seen or touched... or penetrated.

Yamato: Do you understand now? This is why they target towers, and why we defend them.

> What if one's destroyed?
Yamato: The barrier will disperse. Cities that lose their towers are doomed to destruction.

> What if the barrier breaks?
Yamato: The city will lose its only defense. It's certain to crumble and perish afterward.

The JP's member who was standing by came over to Hiro...

JP's Member: That's long enough, Sir. This place is dangerous. You must leave immediately...

[A glob suddenly drops from the sky.]

Female JP's Member: What is that...!? It came from the sky!

Male JP's Member: Stand back, Chief! Let us handle this!
Male JP's Member: I'll go around to the rear. You take it from the front!

Female JP's Member: Got it!

[The Male JP's Member circles to the back, while the Female JP's Member approaches from the front. Both keep a fair distance from the glob.]

Female JP's Member: What is this...? Careful, I can't even tell what it is...!

[The Male JP's Member approaches the glob.]

Male JP's Member: ...No reaction? What does that mea-- UGH!

[The glob explodes, covering the ground the Male JP's Member stands on it red and black slime. The Female JP's Member manages to get out of the way.]

Female JP's Member: I-It exploded! Hey, are you all right?

Male JP's Member: O-Oh... I think I'm okay... But what is this...?

[He approaches the center of the explosion, but a greater spread of gas envelops him, weakening him significantly.]

Male JP's Member: ......! Gaaaaaaaahhh!

Female JP's Member: H-Hey! What's happening!? Tell me!

Male JP's Member: Stay away... Don't come close...
Male JP's Member: Gah...!

[The Male JP's Member collapses.]

Female JP's Member: Hey! Hold on, I'm going to help you...!

[She moves towards the Male JP's Member.]

Yamato: You imbecile! Don't go putting yourself in danger!

[She gets hit by the gas, too, and collapses.]

Yamato: Tch... Here it is... The Septentrione.

> We have to save them.
Yamato: Hm...? Oh, my subordinates? Their predicament is their own fault. Leave them.

> Where's the enemy?
Yamato: I don't know... I don't see them. Perhaps they're camouflaged, or...

[The two JP's Members die.]

Daichi: H-Hey! They died...!? Is this really happening?

Yamato: Hmph... I see. So that's where the toxins are coming from.
Yamato: The falling objects explode after a certain amount of time, releasing the toxins.
Yamato: This is a great opportunity, Hiro. We can't let this go.
Yamato: Everyone, get ready for battle! Protect me as I obtain the enemy's location!
Yamato: I will not give you the details of this operation.

> Please do.
Yamato: I will go to the fallen objects and calculate the coordinates of the main body.
Yamato: For accuracy, I'll need to make many such calculations. I will be vulnerable.
Yamato: I need the rest of you to destroy the fallen objects before they explode.
Yamato: ...That is all. Do you understand?

> Yes.
(Conversation continues.)

> No.
Yamato: ...I see. Let me explain it again. Listen closely this time, okay?

(Yamato repeats his explanation.)

> We don't need that.
(Conversation continues.)

Yamato: All right... I'm counting on you. If my subordinates are trash, I must depend on you.

[Another glob falls from the sky, and several miasmas and demons appear.]

Yamato: Now... It's showtime.

[Battle start! Yamato's turn.]

Yamato: All right... We must now put our plan into practice. I need you to protect me.

[Yamato steps forward into the poison and analyses the fallen object.]

Yamato: I have completed my calculation at the first location. Please continue.

[If Yamato is attacked.]
Yamato: Trash... How dare you try to cross me? You make me laugh.

[Yamato's second turn after standing in the toxin.]

Yamato: Tch... The toxin. This will be bothersome.

[If you get to the first fallen object and defeat it before it explodes.]
Daichi: That was close! I got it before it went off. It's not going to explode now, right?
Keita: Hmph... Is that it? I smashed it before it could explode and release the toxic gas.
[The second fallen object lands on the field.]
Daichi: Hey! What the heck...!? The next one's here already!? You've gotta be kidding me!

[Yamato's second calculation.]

Yamato: I have completed my calculation at the second location. Please continue.

[Upon breaking one of the phones creating a miasma.]

The haywire cell phone has been destroyed, and the miasma dissipates...

[After defeating all the demons, another demon, Hitokotonusi appears.]
Jungo: I'll fight it. Yamato must be protected.
Keita: ...More. All right, I'll take you on.

[Yamato's third calculation.]

Yamato: I have completed my calculation at the third location. Please continue.

[After defeating Hitokotonusi.]
Hitokotonusi: Y-You got me...! But before I die, I need to say... I'm... actually... a... *urk*

[If one of the fallen objects explodes before you can defeat it.]
Daichi: ...Agh! I-It exploded! I wish we'd destroyed it sooner...
Hinako: Gah! Oh no, it exploded! The poison gas...!

[After Yamato's fourth calculation.]

Yamato: I have completed the calculations! Now we must clear out the demons!

[After defeating all the demons, Mission Complete!]

Yamato: All right... All the demons have been destroyed. Good work. I will now return.
Yamato: Data input complete... Coordinates calculated... Beginning scan. There...

Daichi: What is that...!? There's something floating up there!

Yamato: "Alioth" designation confirmed. It's already passed above... Not good.

Daichi: Huh...? Wh-What do you mean, "not good"...?

[Yamato ignores him and makes a call.]

JP's Member: Yes, Chief? Did you call?

Yamato: A Septentrione is approaching this location. Don't let your guard down.

JP's Member: ......!? B-But we don't see anything here...!

Yamato: He is invisible to the naked eye. I'll send over a filter module now. Check the skies.

JP's Member: ......! U-Understood!

[The JP's Members look up. And see... something huge up in the sky.]

JP's Member: Wh... What in the world is that...!?
JP's Member: Ch-Chief...! There's some unidentified flying object up there...!

Yamato: Tch... I figured as much. We have no choice. Cut the power!

JP's Member: What...!? Did you just say...

Yamato: Was I not clear? Cut the power and temporarily freeze the barrier!

JP's Member: Th-That's absurd! If we do that, Tokyo will...!

Yamato: It's out to eradicate the barrier. If it loses power, it'll no longer be a target!

> Will we make it in time?
> But Tokyo will fall!

Yamato: Then what else do you suggest? Sit idly by and watch it destroy the tower?
Yamato: There'll be some casualties, but it's better than losing the tower. Cut the power!

JP's Member: R-Roger!

Yamato: ......
Yamato: Tch... Can you hear me? Respond.

> Is he dead?
> The tower...

Yamato: ...I don't know. But...

JP's Member: ...ief! Chief! Can anyone hear me?

Yamato: What happened? Give me a status report!

JP's Member: Yes, Sir... We're safe. The tower's power has been cut!
JP's Member: Alioth is changing course! It's headed north...!

> We're saved!
> Thank goodness...

Yamato: We're not out of the woods yet. North, eh...?

> What's wrong?
> What's up north?

Yamato: The active towers are in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Sapporo. So it's heading for...

> It's going to Sapporo.
Yamato: ...That's right. It hasn't given up on attacking the towers.

> Where's it going?
Yamato: ...To the tower in Sapporo. It hasn't given up on attacking the towers.

Yamato: Based on its flight speed, it'll take a few hours to reach Hokkaido...
Yamato: And we can't leave the barrier here in Tokyo off forever.
Yamato: Unless we defeat it, it will eventually return here.

> We need a plan.
> Now's the time.

Yamato: You're right. We must devise a countermeasure before it reaches Sapporo.

[Yamato starts talking into his cell phone again.]

Yamato: ...Can you hear me? Alioth is headed to Sapporo.
Yamato: Relay that to all JP's personnel and begin work on a countermeasure at once.

JP's Member: U-Understood! We'll post status reports as soon as possible!

[The call ends.]

Yamato: Now then... Hiro, do we have your support?

> Of course.
Yamato: ...Thank you. Alioth's altitude is far higher than our demons' effective range.

> Is there a choice?
Yamato: Hah... No, there isn't. Alioth is flying far higher than our demons' effective range.

Yamato: If this continues, it could destroy the tower without us ever intercepting it.
Yamato: Hiro... you must find a way to shoot it out of the sky.
Yamato: We'll be making our own preparations. I have every faith in you.

You say your farewells to Yamato before leaving...
