Muse strength meme
I keep meaning to finish that characterisation essay on Gold, and I kind of need to do one on canon!Joshua but instead I'm stealing a meme from
izkariote.

Character: AU!Yoshiya "Joshua" Kiryu (21) [![]() Series: The World Ends With You Currently fielded in: ![]() Muse strength: ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ TST!Joshua is kind of at the point where I feel like I can play him while sleeping. 'DHUR HURR WHAT DO I DO NOW??' moments are generally few and far between now, and while I know that there are still some aspects of Joshua that I, perhaps, don't portray as well as I should, the AU setting makes it far less obvious. That's not to say that what I'm doing is OOC as such, but it's more like... historical and cultural roots are less rich than the real world, and I can take liberties in making things up. Joshua was never in charge of anything big, as such, so there's no real drive for him to pull some big manipulative shindig. The only thing I think that lets down my playing a little is my vocabulary, which isn't as big as it should be for playing Joshua. Cast strength: ■ □ □ □ □ Far less so in an AU. In the first place, TWEWY characters don't specifically need any of the other characters, even the ones who are associated with each other. All Joshua really needs is an advisory-like character to fill the role of Mr. H. Before I got a Mr. H, Isshin was filling that role, and now that I do have a Mr. H, Joshua now has four different old men to advise him. Plotting capabilities: ■ ■ ■ □ □ I've never been fantastic at plotting. He's been good at getting on peoples' nerves, though. Likelihood of drop: □ □ □ □ □ Yeah no.
Character: AU!Gold [Hibiki] (15) [![]() Series: Pokémon Adventures/Special Currently fielded in: ![]() Muse strength: ■ ■ ■ □ □ (It's actually closer to 3.5/5 but yeah) Of my non-Joshua muses, Gold has certainly been the easiest to play. My playing of Gold's far from perfect; I'm not sure if I've quite got his voice down yet since I keep reading many different translations and haven't solidified my own voice of him yet, and I haven't yet resolved in my head the whole age issue (which I'll essay up later) so I kind of feel like I'm playing Gold a little bit... shallowly, personality wise. But, nevertheless, playing Gold hasn't been like pulling teeth as it was when I was playing Akihiko or Toto, so I am cool with putting up with these playing issues until I resolve them. Cast strength: □ □ □ □ □ Since he's taken from pre-canon-ish timeline and AUified and such, Gold doesn't actually know any of the other cast members anyway. He could do with people he looks up to and people to keep in check and RIVAL!!1!!s of course, but they don't have to be from his cast. Plotting capabilities: ■ ■ □ □ □ I'm still terribad at plotting, but he's got the idiotic shounen heart so it's not too hard to involve him in things. Likelihood of drop: ■ ■ □ □ □ Yeah, okay, he's a (far) weaker muse than Joshua, but having Gold in my lineup is a wonderfully refreshing change of pace. And he doesn't make me want to put off tags like I did with Atsuro.
Character: Yoshiya "Joshua" Kiryu (???) [![]() Series: The World Ends With You Currently fielded in: ![]() Muse strength: ■ ■ ■ □ □ My headspace for canon Joshua is actually a little confused right now. Well actually it's more see-sawing between playing the part of a confused newcomer and being a dick. Joshua wants to know information, and to get information, he can't be too much of a douche, otherwise he won't get that information. But on the other hand, I also remember that one time I tried canon reviewing Joshua after 2 years of playing TST!Joshua, and I recall thinking "WOW, Joshua is an incredible jackass. Mine's not nearly as bad as he was in canon". This leaves me sort of flipflopping between thinking that I'm being too dicky or I'm not being dicky enough (but mostly the latter). I also keep brainfarting and just getting a feeling that there's something not quite right in my tags, but I can't pinpoint exactly what. It's sort of feeling that his dickery isn't the... right dicking? Hmm. I keep meaning to canon review but I end up playing TWEWY in Japanese instead OOPS. There's also the fact I have a fair amount of Joshua and worldbuilding headcanon, but because I don't want to lock potential TWEWY applicants into my version of things, I have to keep these things open ended. And sure, yeah, a lot of these things are backstage kind of stuff, but I like having a clean backstage, okay )': Cast strength: ■ □ □ □ □ Again, Joshua doesn't really need a cast. However, what he does need is some indication that things are okay back in Shibuya. Or, even better, an indication that time in Shibuya hasn't passed since he was yanked into Rivelata. Already, I'm starting to get the beginnings of worry at the back of Joshua's mind. Plotting capabilities: ■ ■ ■ □ □ Still bad at plotting, but there are a few potential plans for him when it's apparent his stay's going to be a bit longer than anticipated and he starts getting back more of his powers. I'm considering ways of dealing with the above mentioned Shibuya issue, and Rivelata has a few tantalising possibilities in doing so. Likelihood of drop: ■ ■ □ □ □ Jamjars still aren't really my thing, though at least Rivelata has given me tools in which to combat the troubles I have with playing canon Joshua in jamjars. It's an interesting experiences nevertheless, and I'd be hardpressed in deciding whether I'd drop this Joshua or Gold if I can't keep up. |
