[Essay] Magic (mages) Part 2
Part 2 of the magic essay.
The teaching of magic
Magicians
There are two cities that have schools for kids to become magicians, Geffen and Yuno. Within these cities there are a few schools, but there is one 'top' school amongst them. Usually children start attending these schools for magicians at age nine and finish schooling at age twelve, but it's possible to attend later (like Trian). If the kid really has dificulty with the magic taught, the teachers usually tell the parents that magic is probably not suited for the kid. If the parents (or the kid) still really want the kid to be a magician, they can stay for an extra year.
Classes usually comprise of twenty five to thirty students and the first year is very classroom-esque due to most of it being theory. The next two years, where the students have their practicals, take place outside, generally a short distance away from the general populace.
It is assumed that the kids are able to read and write before they come to mage school, and there is both a written and practical test they have to pass in order to gain entry into wizard/sage schools.
Magicians learn:
- What magic is and what it has the potential to do (usually the positive things |D )
- The history of magic and other theory related stuffffff
- To 'see' the Stream and learn how to tap into the energy in it, learning how to cast basic spells.
- Both methods of casting and with a bit of experimentation, figure out which one is most suited to them.
Wizards
Magicians wanting to be wizards are trained in Geffen (because Yuno is povo and won't make a wizard school ; o; ), the first year in a group classroom, and the subsequent years in one on one tuition with another wizard, usually at the wizard's place of residence, which is either in Geffen Tower or somewhere else within the city. Most magicians wanting to become wizards come from Geffen, hence usually only attend tuition at the hours the wizard prescribes. However, for international students (haha. ha), they often take up residence with the wizard for the duration of their studies. This is advantageous in the sense that there is more flexibility for the tuition hours, the pupil has a better understanding of the wizard lifestyle (THEY CAN SO HAVE FAMILIES!), it cuts down on the cost for the student to stay in Geffen (international travel isn't exactly easy) and gives the wizard an extra person tobully help out with the chores. Of course there's always the chance the wizard is a pedo wait, that happened to Tyler WRONG CITY.
In summary, magic is essentially asking a god to do a spell and if the god does it, MAGIC HAPPENS, but because that sounds too simple and easy, mages make up complex casting methods in order to make themselves appear mysterious and superior to the general populace, to the point that the lie has become truth.
[add: note newbie magicians run the risk of becoming stuck in the Stream in their first time.
add: auras, what they are, leakage of power. Powerful mages can easily be felt, but powerful mages in CONTROL of their magic have no aura at all.
