It's that time of the year again

This was actually meant to be posted earlier, but LJ kept on giving me an error whenever I tried to post... :c

The thing about rewatching something that you watched in your childhood like 10 years ago is that tastes change, and the ability to pick up flaws is stronger. Yeah, I still enjoyed rewatching Digimon, but at the same time, I know that if I was watching Digimon for the first time now, I probably would have stopped early in Season 1.

The animation and dubbing really shows its age (though I haven't watched any recent dubs so I suppose it's hard to tell whether dubbing has improved or not, but I like to think it has), though I think it's the dubbing that bothers me more. I know matching the mouth flaps that were originally made for the Japanese language is hard, but it kind of bothers me that a fair amount of the talking seems to happen without breath and with run on sentences. It's pretty noticeable that Tentomon doesn't suffer from this, since his mouth doesn't move when he speaks.

I'm not even going to get into power rankings and how everything past Puppetmon in Season 1 seemed really rushed to me (I thought I watched all of Season 1 as a kid, but I have absolutely no recollection of the last two episodes!) because these are things that almost always bother me in any kind of story that has a lot of fighting in it, along with the standing there and getting hit kind of thing. Something else that bothered me was that there were (seeming?) inconsistencies (like Tai, Joe(?) and Mimi somehow knowing the names of their crests, yet later, Sora tells half the group what everyone's crests are (where she learnt what they were from eavesdropping on Demidevimon and Myotismon's conversation), and it's treated like it's new information. And then in the final arc while Wargreymon is battling Piedmon while Tai, Izzy and Kari are waiting for Sora and TK to bring back the rest of the group, Tai somehow knows that Mimi is going to be bringing other Digimon with her. HOW DOES HE KNOW THIS?? Sora does it earlier, too! There is no way they should know this! I don't know if these are translation errors (Shogunmon was called a different name by the Gekomon) but yeah.

However, I will say that as a kid I had like, a major thing for Weregarurumon and Garudamon. And every time Wizardmon came onto the screen for the short time he had, it's like /squeal. Tai, Sora and Gomamon were my favourite characters. These things haven't changed. This is also where I admit I had way too much fun making fun of Venom myotismon (HE SHOOTS BEAMS OUT OF HIS CROTCH. HAS A VAGINA DENTATA AND IS DEFEATED BY GETTING HIT IN THE CROTCH. IT'S HARD NOT TO MAKE FUN OF HIM) and Wargreymon's numerous upskirt/panty shots. And it's kind of obvious the animation improved over the season, and I'm not talking about the transition to 3D CGI (maybe they got a bigger budget to work with?). Just, more frames for animations and fewer repeated animations (not counting digievolution).

Also, there was that one episode in Shibuya that I couldn't help thinking that Joshua would be all "GODDAMMIT STOP RUINING MY CITY" through it.

Which brings me to that crossover idea.

See, when the kids were going to use Myotismon's gate, Tai could have very easily chosen the fake, Agumon card, which could have resulted them into going into a completely different world. Or they end up in the same world with side effects.

What if they did end up going home... but were in the UG instead of the RG?

There's a lot of things I could do with this. Digimon deaths are similar in appearance to erasure in TWEWY, in that a Player/Noise/Reaper just kind of... disintegrates when they're erased. Also, it seems that when Digimon die, they're rewritten/reborn again. Patamon's the obvious example, but late in the 4 Dark Masters' arc, Leomon and Whamon were mentioned to going to be reborn into primary village, along with all the other Digimon who had died. (There've been no mention of whether 'evil' Digimon are reborn or not, but I'm sort of leaning towards yes, and the Digimon who died through digievolution became part of Apocolypsemon... who also seemed to also have data from 'evil' Digimon). That's pretty similar to the idea that everything that is erased in the UG eventually winds back in the RG. I think this was mentioned in TWEWY canon, but it's been a while since I've played and I've honestly been mixing up headcanon with actual canon so much lately I'm not sure.

I'd actually like to see the Digidestined play the Game (whether this is while Myotismon is searching or not, haven't really thought too much into this)... and lose one of them on the 7th day.

Sure, the final arc of Digimon Season 1 dealt with death a little more than previous arcs, but the deaths have always been to someone else. Someone who wasn't a Digidestined. Someone who isn't 'needed' to save the Digiworld.

It could go so many ways.

Also, starting Season 2, I've realised that Veemon's voice sounds remarkably similar to Demidevimon's...

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I feel like writing some drabbles (despite being somewhat strapped for time)! But all the story ideas I've been having are... big, multi-chapter kind of ideas (unusual for me). Unrelated, but I kind of hope that one day I'll write something that ends up on a TVTropes fanfic rec page * A* ANYWAY!

I will write drabbles for you.

Give me a prompt (whether it's a scenario, a word, or a phrase) and a fandom, and I will write you something. The fandoms I'm comfortable with writing for are:
- Ace Attorney
- Deadman Wonderland
- Devil Survivor
- Ghost Trick
- MOTHER 1, MOTHER 2/Earthbound, MOTHER 3
- Original Characters
- Persona 3, Persona 4
- Pokémon Special, Pokémon Black/White
- TST
- The World Ends With You (my obvious forte |D )

I might have forgotten some fandoms though, so there's no harm in asking even if it's not on this list!

The subbed version is a bit more bearable, and lacks the cheezy puns and cut scenes. I watched it recently and maaaan nostalgia &hearts

Also! If I remember right Veemon and Davis/Daisuke share a VA

Unfortunately, all I have access to are the dubbed versions, since that's what my friend has and the online free streaming off crunchyroll? etc. are region locked. There's a lot of holes that were supposedly induced by the dub, which is a bit :C for me, especially if I do end up writing this crossover. I hear there's a lot of information contained in stuff like CD dramas and movies and such * A*

Really? :O So... he spends most of the anime talking to himself? xD

i used to have the subbed versions, but I've failed getting them again. if I find them I'll let ya know ^^

And lol yeah I think so XD I'll have to double check to be sure

Thanks!

(also, you really want me to write this crossover huh? 83)

Well I'd ttly read it, if just because I'm in both fandoms XD

Digimon was my first fandom in fact, and I love babbling about it, regardless of context
