OKAY I SERIOUSLY NEED TO GET THIS LAST BIT OF ME BEING FUCKING STUPID OUT OF MY SYSTEM SO I CAN ACTUALLY FUCKING CONCENTRATE ON MY STUDIES.

OKAY SO LIKE Joshua/Ness is totally the 2nd pairing I have ever RPed, the first being uhhh. ... well, ICly, only bad things came out of it, and I don't know if it really counts considering most of it was ficletted, rather than actually RPed. BUT ANYWAY, it kind of belatedly occurs to me that in AU RP, you're generally more able to play out the 'boring' parts of a relationship than in a jamjar RP. DISCLAIMER: I might be wrong about several things about jamjars, mostly because I primarily take an 'outsider looking in' perspective on those, seeing as I never last more than a month or two in one. Feel free to correct me, as I'll be mostly going by my impressions.

Liiike, I've really enjoyed playing out the little dates and the small fights and cockblock Joshua and Ness have had. These are things that are easily played out in jamjars, too. But I've also enjoyed them meeting each others' parents, and even though we didn't play out that scene (because oh my god who would want to NPC that much??), it's the... ability for them to say, "I want you to meet my parents" and actually have them do that within the RP's timeline that's really um. charming! I guess! What I'm trying to say is that within most jamjars, I guess I feel that you're... somewhat restricted in the sense that you'll mostly be playing the aspect of the relationship between the characters in question, and the characters in their immediate surroundings (the friends they have/made in the RP, enemies, EVERYTHING ELSE). But when most jamjars are primarily based on the aspect of... you know, getting back home, I feel there isn't that much room for something more... permanent, like settling down/having a family/getting married/going travelling together. Often there's issues such as unfinished business back home, meaning characters generally wouldn't choose to stay in the RPworld if they could get home, I think. And even if the characters in question declare they'll find a way to cross worlds and meet again to be together, it's... not something that will get played out during the RP's canon.

However, in AU RP I can do all that. Of course there has to be some kind of fiddling to ensure characters keep in contact with the rest of the RP-base rather than ~*disappearing forever*~ (and that would be no fun) if the characters in question are the sort to do so. It's... well, I guess it feels ordinary. I don't have to worry about all this other "I AM STUCK IN ANOTHER WORLD" baggage that could easily bring down an otherwise happy picnic. Not saying the 'stuck in another world' issues are bad, but they're... just not things I want to play out. It's mostly because in my view, the talks and solutions to said issues tend to all ring the same kind of tune. I like being able to play out a relationship without having to worry about the "oh yeah but what if we can/can't get home" bit, which serves as a barrier to... I guess deeper things, because there are going to be issues in a relationship, but these are issues that can't be resolved because of the nature of a jamjar!

Of course, I'm just making sweeping general statements here; the RP in question and the characters involved would change things.

Actually I guess this is the reason why I don't like most jamjars in general. I just don't like having to deal with the "I WANT TO GET HOME" issue (because I main Joshua, I imagine Toto wouldn't be that bothered by it and GODDAMMIT CANON COME OUT FASTER so I can actually decide whether I want to return to being a single character whore or not), and it'd really drag after being stuck after a year or so, I guess.

tl;dr TEN DOESN'T LIKE THE ISSUES THAT COME WITH BEING STUCK IN ANOTHER UNIVERSE.

... OKAY THAT WASN'T WHAT I MEANT TO TALK ABOUT AT ALL BUT WHATEVER.
