[DeSu 2] Last Day - Daichi's Route - Intermission: Final Assessments

< Prev | Index | Next >

[Credits to [personal profile] jumyouboshi for the majority of the script for Underlying Cause!]

Swallowed World

[Asakusa - Sensouji] [10:00]
Makoto: Ugh... So it's come this far. I thought I was prepared for it, but...

Joe: Man, this is really bad. At this rate, we might not even make it another day.

[If you did not take the event, Reversible Idea, then you get the following dialogue instead.]
Hinako: This is... not good. At this rate, we only have a day... No only a few hours!

Daichi: ......

> What happened?
Daichi: Hm? Oh, Hiro. It's not a big deal. Well... Maybe it is! Haha...

> Are you asleep?
Daichi: Huh? ...Hiro!? I-I-I-I'm awake! This is no time to be making jokes!

> Are you thinking?
Daichi: Hm? Oh, Hiro. It's not a big deal. Well... Maybe it is! Haha...

Joe: Hey, Hiro. Good timing. Can you take a look at this?
Joe: It's Polaris's scar. What was it called? A "Total Void" or something? It's getting bigger.

[If you didn't take the event, Reversible Idea, the following dialogue replaces Joe's.]
Io: Hey, Hiro... Look at Polaris' scar... it's so much bigger than before...

Daichi: I heard that even the Edogawa and Etou wards were swallowed by the darkness...

> Is that near us?
Daichi: Heh... I guess it doesn't matter at this point, but, yeah, it's pretty close.

> So?
Daichi: Well... I guess it doesn't matter at htis point, but it's pretty close to where we are.

Daichi: It's not just Edogawa or Etou. The nothingnesss (sic) is expanding, and people are evacuating.
Daichi: It's like the only things left are the parts of the city we walk around in a lot.

Makoto: ...It's the same in other cities. There aren't many cities left intact.

[If you didn't take the event, Reversible Idea, the following dialogue replaces Makoto's line.]
Io: It's like that in the other surviving cities, too. You can count them on one hand...

Daichi: Even then, the survivors are being attacked by demons... Everything's falling apart.
Daichi: ...Is this all because the barrier Yamato placed is gone now?

> This is serious.
> We have to hurry.

Daichi: ...Yeah. If we don't hurry, maybe the whole world WILL become nothing...!

Io: The world... become nothing...

[If you did not take the event, Reversible Idea, the following dialogue replaces Io's line.]
Io: The world will disappear... I don't really like thinking about this...

Daichi: ...Whoa! S-Sorry! Did I kill the mood!?
Daichi: Hey, don't worry! We've got Hiro! If we all work together, I'm sure it'll work!

Hinako: Y-Yeah! Everything will be fine! I'm sure of it...!

[If you did not take the event, Reversible Idea, you don't see the following lines.]
Joe: Haha... Oh, Daichi. Anyway, we should see Polaris quick and get something done.

Makoto: Heh... You're right. We have to do whatever we can, the best we can.

Underlying Cause

[Akasaka - Akasaka Tunnel] [10:00]
[Note: This event can only be taken if you had taken the event, Reversible Idea.]

You find your friends searching the area...

Hinako: Hmm... changes, changes... I don't see anything.

Airi: Yeah, I haven't found anything either. You sure you're looking hard enough, Hinako?

Hinako: Of course I am. Try again, Ai, this time with your eyes open, okay?

Airi: What? I'm wide awake! Quit making fun of me like that!

Hinako: Are you sure...? I thought I saw your eyes roll back in your head during our break.

Airi: Urgh...! Th-That was something different! Stupid Hina!

Jungo: No fighting. You two just made up. Oh, hi, Hiro.

Hinako: Hey, it's Hiro. Did you find any changes anywhere?

> Not yet.
> I haven't been looking.

Hinako: What!? Why not? If we don't look carefully, we can't... Hm? Hey, look!

A familiar-looking man is standing on the other side of the road...

Airi: Oh...! Hiro, it's that one guy!

Anguished One: Hello, Shining One. We meet again.

> Is this an ambush?
Anguished One: I wouldn't dream of it. If that were my intention, I'd go and see you directly.

> Hey there.
Anguished One: Haha, I see you've become accustomed to my ways.

Hinako: Oh yeah... This is a great chance for us to bring up what we were talking about!
Hinako: Hey... there's something we want to ask you!

Anguished One: Is there...? I'll try and answer as best I can. What is it?

> About restoring the past...
> Can the world be restored?

Anguished One: I see. Does this mean you will ask Polaris to restore the world prior to the calamity?

Hinako: Mm-hm, that's right. But we hear the restored data and our current selves may conflict...
Hinako: After the warnings we got, we don't know if we can pull this off or not.

Anguished One: Ahh. It's true that when the past data is restored, your memory will be wiped clean...
Anguished One: The world will share the same fate. Even if you had an especially strong will...
Anguished One: Resisting the past data could potentially result in both versions of you being erased.

> So it won't work.
> What should we do?

Anguished One: There is only one thing I can tell you, Shining One...
Anguished One: So far as I know, yes, it will be difficult to retain your memories after the reset.
Anguished One: Even in an ideal situation with your memories intact, changing the world is no small goal.
Anguished One: But will you give up now? If the world's fate were absolute, you would be extinct already.

Io: We would? Then that means...!

Anguished One: You humans have endured the trial sent by Polaris and driven off the Septentriones.
Anguished One: The fact that you still live is more than I had expected from you.

> I see.
Anguished One: Shining One, you are buds with infinite possibilities. You must carve your own paths.

> What do you mean?
Anguished One: Believe in yourself, Shining One. You have great potential. You must carve your own paths.

Hinako: So... even though it sounds impossible, we still have a chance of pulling it off...?

Anguished One: Yes. Having faith in each other and acting in concert is a strong show of will.
Anguished One: You humans have the rare gift of making the impossible possible.

> We'll do it.
Anguished One: That's the spirit. You control your own future.

> I'm not too confident.
Anguished One: You're free to doubt yourself as well. Only you can decide your future, after all.

Anguished One: I look forward to the outcome...

The man disappears...

Hinako: Hey...! He's gone! Who IS that guy?

> An enemy.
Hinako: It's hard to think of him as an enemy, though... He just gave us a hint.

> An ally.
Hinako: An ally? Yeah... he did just give us a hint...

Airi: W-Wait a sec! If he was right, doesn't that mean we really can restore the past!?

> It sure does.
> In a way, yeah.

Jungo: Mm-hm. If we all work together, we can do the impossible.

Hinako: Whether we defeat Polaris, or restore the past... the choice is up to us.
Hinako: Hiro... we need to think carefully about this.

You say your farewells to everyone before leaving...
