[DeSu 2] Fate - Yamato Hotsuin

< Ronaldo Kuriki | Index | Yuzuru "Joe" Akie >

Day 2

JP's Chief [Nagata-cho - Tokyo Branch]
[Only available before leaving for Osaka.]
Yamato is on the phone...

Yamato: ...I see. First, compile a thorough report on the disaster situation.
Yamato: No, we'll get rid of them. Some instability is to be expected. I leave it to you.

Yamato hangs up the phone and looks in your direction...

Yamato: ...Kageyama. Were you listening just now?

> Yes.
Yamato: You're honest. A normal person wouldn't admit to eavesdropping so openly.
Yamato: But I'm impressed. It's important to gather is much information as you can.
Yamato: And yet, I don't think you overheard anything that would benefit you... Wait.
Yamato: Hahaha... Are you concerned about what I said regarding "getting rid of" something?

> No.
Yamato: ...There's no need to hide it. If it was top secret, I wouldn't talk about it here.
Yamato: I don't believe I was discussing anything that pertained to you... Wait.
Yamato: Hahaha... Are you concerned about what I said regarding "getting rid of" something?

> "Get rid of"?
Yamato: "Getting rid of..."? Oh, I get it.

Yamato smiles slightly...

Yamato: Good ear. I suppose I should have expected nothing less.

Yamato: Don't worry. It has nothing to do with your treatment.
Yamato: I was talking about how to stop the misuse of the summoning app.
Yamato: ...Normal civilians who suddenly gain control of demons are very dangerous.
Yamato: Their selfishness leads to destructive impulses.
Yamato: Unchecked, it will lead to Japan's utter destruction.
Yamato: That was why I intended to apprehend you. Do you see?

> Oh.
Yamato: Hahaha... You don't seem very fazed.
Yamato: I'm waiting to see if that's due to courage or stupidity.

> I see.
Yamato: It's good that you're intelligent. You're different from the other civilians.

> Give me a break.
Yamato: You can interpret that however you wish.

Yamato: ...Well, then.

Yamato returns to his work...

The Public [Shinsekai - Osaka Main Branch]
[only after bringing Hinako to JP's]
Yamato is speaking with a JP's member...

JP's Member: We keep getting reports of civilian casualties. There are more demons than expected.

Yamato: ...I see. So?

JP's Member: W-Well, I think there's a need for increased defenses...

Yamato: More defenses? Why?

JP's Member: ...Huh? Well, the civilians...

Yamato: What is the merit in taking on the extra risk? Do you think it'll help Japan?

JP's Member: W-Well...

Yamato: We can save many incompetent people, but it won't help our situation.
Yamato: It will only speed up the process that is right now killing Japan. Am I wrong?

JP's Member: N-No...

Yamato: ...Then go. I'm busy.

JP's Member: ...Excuse me.

When the member leaves, Yamato glances in your direction...

Yamato: Ah, it's you. ...It's just as you heard.
Yamato: Listening to your emotions and saving people would be easy. It's the same for us in JP's.
Yamato: But... doing so would cut back on our forces, and we'll only gain more incompetent people.
Yamato: ...Do you understand? We must have priorities, unlike Japan before the disaster.

> Priorities?
Yamato: The only why this nation protects its citizens is for productive power.

> So JP's is a priority?
Yamato: That's right, but it needs explanation.

Yamato: But what we need now is people who can use demons, and defeat them...
Yamato: There is no point in saving anybody else.
Yamato: ...Well then.

Yamato turns back to his work...

Day 3

[WHUUP WHUP TEMPORARY TEXT DUMP day 3-4? I can't tell if this is mandatory or not so...]
Faint Suspicion [Hisaya Odori - Nagoya Branch]
You find Yamato watching the restoration work with his cold gaze...

Yamato: It's you... Kageyama. Well done.

> It's fine.
Yamato: You're quite impressive.
Yamato: You drove away the rioters, defeated Phecda, and took back the Nagoya branch.

> That was easy.
Yamato: You drove away the rioters, defeated Phecda, and took back the Nagoya branch.
Yamato: What more could you have hoped to accomplish?

> I'm tired.
Yamato: Yes, I'm sure you are.
Yamato: You drove away the rioters, defeated Phecda, and took back the Nagoya branch.

Yamato: ...You met Ronaldo Kuriki, no? What did he have to tell you?

> Nothing in particular.
Yamato: Oh, really...? Did he happen to mention that one of his acquaintances was killed?

> Actually...
Yamato: Let me guess. Did he happen to mention that one of his acquaintances was killed?

Yamato: Haha... Foolish rat. He forgets his place, and dares to bite at a soaring dragon.

> Did you kill him?
Yamato: What a pointless questions. Does a hawk not kill animals that would threaten its nest?

> So you don't deny it?
Yamato: Why should I deny it? Does a hawk not kill animals that would threaten its nest?

Yamato: JP's was always top-secret. Not even leaders of other nations knew about us.
Yamato: ...There is no reason why a rat should have even heard about it.

It seems Yamato has firmly shut the door on this conversation...

Yamato: Now, go. I truly do appreciate your annihilation of Phecda. Well done.

You say your farewells to Yamato and leave the area...

Day 4

Chief's Chagrin [Shinsekai - Osaka Main Branch]
Yamato is with a JP's member. The member looks nervous.

JP's Member: I'm very sorry! This is completely my fault...!

Yamato: ...Tell me the situation.

JP's Member: We let a few demons go, and there's a lot of damage on our end...

Yamato: And the cause?

JP's Member: ...A flaw in my plan. I have no excuse. I accept any punishment...

[If you've already been to Fukuoka, the previous line is replaced by this.]
JP's Member: ...My lack of understanding. The "encroachment of the Void" you announced...
JP's Member: It was faster than I'd anticipated, and we were hurt because of it.
JP's Member: In other words, it was a flaw in my planning. I have no excuse. I accept punishment.

Yamato: ......I understand.

JP's Member: ...Huh?

Yamato: I said I understand. Is that all you have to report to me?

[If you've been to Fukuoka, the previous line is replaced by this.]
Yamato: ...Only the Hotsuin family knew the truth about the Void. It's out of our hands.
Yamato: ...That's all I have to say about the situation. Are you done with your report?

JP's Member: Y-Yes, Sir... What's going to happen to me...?

Yamato: Nothing. Go.

JP's Member: Huh? But what about--

Yamato: Don't make me say it twice. ...Go.

JP's Member: ......! Excuse me...

The member leaves..

Yamato: ......

> That was kind.
Yamato: ...Do you think so? Punishment is for those who fail to meet your expectations.
Yamato: I have nothing to say to those from whom I expect nothing.

> You're not punishing him?
Yamato: Ha... Punish him? I'd only try that on those who still have a chance of improvement.
Yamato: Trash materials provide trash performance. That's it. It's not worth punishing him.

Yamato: JP's members have spiritual powers and we always look for talented people in any field.
Yamato: And yet, there are simple, modern people. Training does not improve their powers.

[If you've been to Fukuoka, you also get this.]
Yamato: Those who are shaken by things such as the coming Void don't deserve to be my pawns.

Yamato: I only use them because I have no better pawns available to me. That's all.
Yamato: But I cannot understand you... You are a civilian, but you have performed amazing feats.
Yamato: Where did you get the grounding to do such things?

> I have no grounding!
Yamato: Ah... I see. No special training aside from the past few days' battles...
Yamato: ...That's how you nurtured your abilities. You truly are an impressive man.

> It's a talent.
Yamato: Ha... Is that so? No special training aside from the past few days' battles...
Yamato: That's how the talents slumbering within you have blossomed. Impressive.

> It's a secret.
Yamato: Is that so...? You hardly acted like an expert when this all began.
Yamato: Perhaps it's best to consider that the recent battles have nurtured your abilities?
Yamato: Still... To grow so much, so quickly... Marvelous.

Yamato: I look forward to seeing how far you will continue to surpass my expectations.

Yamato returns to his work...

Day 5

Chief's Doubt [Shinsekai - Osaka Main Branch]
Daichi is looking around...

Daichi: Hey, Yamato? Hellooooo? ...Where is that guy? Sheesh.
Daichi: Hey, Hiro. Have you seen Yamato?

> No clue.
> Did you need him?

Daichi: A JP's dude asked me to get him. Something about a meeting...
Daichi: Hmm... Oh, well. Guess I'll come back later... Huh?

There are several piles of paper on the desk. Daichi picks up a sheet at random.

Daichi: Let's see... "Initial Report on Septentriones Battle"?
Daichi: Uhhh... "Recovering and analyzing remnants from target and... crystalline structure."
Daichi: "Ergo, power source unknown. ...wave functions... Overlap and elemental particles..."

[After (I assume) the realisation that the bosses are called Septentriones, the previous paragraph is replaced by this.]
Daichi: Let's see... "Initial Report on Septentriones Battle"? What's this?
Daichi: Uhhh...
Daichi: "Matter in that reality is impossible to detect on the level of elementary..."
Daichi: "Thus, to call it a complete void from before the dawn of the universe is conjecture..."
Daichi: "...within the realms of superstring theory..."

Daichi: ...Gaaaaah! What does this stuff mean!? What language is it in!?

Yamato: Hm. I'm impressed.

Daichi: Waaah! O-Oh, it's you, Yamato! Man, you surprised me!

Yamato: You're very studious, Shijima. But, those reports are old.
Yamato: I'll have them bring you the most recent data.

Daichi: N-No! I'm all done with this stuff! I mean, it makes no sense at all..

Yamato: Are you a remedial student? It's written in very simple Japanese.

Daichi: What... Okay, so?
Daichi: Well, excuse me!
Daichi: What kind of high school did you go to, then? One just for super geniuses?

Yamato: High school? I've never participated in an educational institution.

Daichi: Not even elementary school!? What the heck!? No way!

Yamato: I was already at college-level education when I was a child.
Yamato: Any questions were handled by personal expert lectures. That's the Hotsuin way.

Daichi: That's just nuts. What a life you've led...
Daichi: But, man... isn't that tough? You don't even have time to be with friends...

Yamato: "Friends"...?

Daichi: Yeah, I mean... You can't play soccer or dodgeball by yourself, right?

Yamato: It was never an issue. I had no need for soccer and such.

Daichi: What about dodgeball?

Yamato: "And such" includes dodgeball.

Daichi: I see... I guess it's tough to be special, too...
Daichi: Huh. Hearing that actually makes me glad that I had a normal life.

Yamato: ...What?

Daichi: Oh, yeah... A JP's member was looking for you. He said to come to the conference room.
Daichi: Well, see ya later. I'm off, Hiro!

Daichi leaves...

Yamato: "A normal life"...?

> It's fun.
Yamato: I see... If you say so, then it's worth looking into.
Yamato: It's a fact that people like you have received no special training, yet here you are...

> It's boring.
Yamato: So, you have a different opinion than Shijima? Ha... It seems you are unique.
Yamato: Yet, it's a fact that despite having no special training, here you are...

> I'll show you.
Yamato: Hehe... I see. So a civilian will be my tutor? That sounds interesting.
Yamato: It's a fact that people like you have received no special training, yet here you are...

Yamato: ...Is there something within common life that should produce someone like you...?
Yamato: Ha, I doubt it. Still...

Yamato walks away, lost in thought...

Chief's Stance [Tenjinbashi-Suji - Ten 7 Mall]
Yamato is looking around the city with a fierce look on his face...

Yamato: ...You. I didn't think I'd see you here.

> It's not like you to be out.
Yamato: Yes, it's been a long time since I was out in society.
Yamato: I'm scouting to see the potential in civilians, to see if there are more like you.

> What are you doing?
Yamato: An inspection. I was looking around for more civilians.
Yamato: I thought that perhaps I could find more like you.

Yamato: ...It seems to have been for naught, thought. I've been wasting my time.
Yamato: Everyone is afraid, fleeing, waiting for danger to pass. ...Like small animals.

[On Day 6, you get this additional script]
Yamato: ...It's no wonder Polaris made the decision to annihilate us. Even I wish I could crush them.

Yamato: Hmph... What was I thinking? Someone like me... Hm?

A middle-aged man runs up to the two of you...

Bald Man: You, sirs! This is great timing! O lucky day!

Yamato: ...Who are you?

Bald Man: We just made this! Would you like some? It tastes divine!

Yamato: ...? Is this... carbohydrates...?

Bald Man: I don't have any customers, so I used the very last of my ingredients. It's my best work!

Yamato: I do not need the hospitaility of the civilian population.

Bald Man: Just take it, already! Quit trying to be modest, kid! See ya!

The man forces a serving of takoyaki into Yamato's hand and leaves...

Yamato: Hiro... What is this, exactly?

> It's takoyaki.
Yamato: ...Is this something you people eat? It looks rather dubious.

> It's junk food.
Yamato: "Junk food"... Conveniant and inexpensive. I have heard of such things.

> The king of the street.
Yamato: Hah... The king, eh? A lofty claim. Perhaps you simply don't know any better?

Yamato: In any case, I have no use for civilian foodstuffs.

Yamato glares down at the takoyaki with cold eyes...

> Why aren't you eating it?
Yamato: This? It's not exactly the most appetizing thing.

> It's delicious...
Yamato: So you say, but...

Yamato is indecisive...

> It's gonna get cold.
> Trust me, it's really good.

Yamato: ......
Yamato: Very well. If you say so, I will try one, if only to broaden my horizons...

Yamato puts a piece of takoyaki in his mouth...

Yamato: ...Nothing but a civilian--
Yamato: ...?
Yamato: ...! Wh-What on Earth!?

Yamato stuffs the takoyaki into his mouth, one after the other...

Yamato: ......

> Well?
> Was it good?

Yamato smiles slightly...

Yamato: ...You're a strange one, Hiro.
Yamato: You defy my predictions, you know this unknown world, and you constantly surprise me.
Yamato: Heheh... I've never met anyone who so betrayed my expectations.
Yamato: Yes... It seems I was right in my judgement. Perhaps with you...

Yamato walks away...

Chief's Invite [Shinsekai - Osaka Main Branch]
Yamato: Good of you to come, Hiro. I've been waiting for you.

> Thanks.
Yamato: Heh. It seems you know what I'm here. I want to talk with you.

> Why?
Yamato: I want to talk to you. You know what.

> I don't give autographs.
Yamato: Hahaha...! Very funny, Hiro. I would have expected nothing less.

Yamato: ...You understand my ideals, don't you?

> Yes.
Yamato: You're as intelligent as always. I want you on my team now more than ever.

> What ideals?
Yamato: I don't know if you're playing dumb or truly asking. You're difficult to read.
Yamato: This concerns the new world I'm going to create. One based on merit.

Yamato: I'm going to get straight to the point. Be my right-hand man, Hiro.
Yamato: Your achievements leave no doubts in my mind as to your talent.
Yamato: With all your natural ability, why do you think you have been hidden for so long?
Yamato: It's not worth considering. It's because the old society was structured poorly.
Yamato: They force mediocrity on those with ability, and treat them as any other idiot...
Yamato: ...And they pretend that it's the "right" thing to do!
Yamato: That's the reaility of the old society. Stupidity at its worst.
Yamato: Don't you feel it? The foolishness of that society?

> I do.
Yamato: It's normal for someone like you to have these feelings.

> Nope.
Yamato: ...Is that so? Isn't it just that your thoughts have been numbed by your emotions?

Yamato: That society has already collapsed. There is nothing getting in your way now.
Yamato: From now on... if you stay with me, your talents will be allowed to blossom.
Yamato: It's for your own good as well as the good of the world. That is what I believe.
Yamato: Hahaha... Think about it. I'll be waiting to hear from you, Hiro.

Yamato gives you a hard stare and walks away...

Day 7 - Recruited

JP's Collapse [Shinsekai - Osaka Main Branch]
You find Yamato with a remnant of JP's...

JP's Remnant: Chief...! We can't give up like this!

Yamato: .....

JP's Remnant: We can still fight... Let's try it again!
JP's Remnant: The new Japan needs us, Chief! It needs your ideals! Just give the order...!

Yamato: ...Stop it. I'm not your Chief any longer.

JP's Remnant: No! You'll always be our leader! For glorious JP's...

Yamato: I lost. My limits have been proven. Don't make me say any more.

JP's Remnant: But...!

Yamato: ...Stop. Do you wish to disgrace me even further?
Yamato: The world no longer needs JP's. Don't you see that...? Are you that blind?

JP's Remnant: ......

Yamato: Now go. JP's is over.

JP's Remnant: ......

The former JP's member's shoulders slump as he walks away...

Yamato: ......
Yamato: Hiro... It seems you overheard.
Yamato: ...If things are to be done right, I must disappear along with JP's.
Yamato: But there is much that I still need to do.

> Rebuilding Japan?
Yamato: ...Rebuilding is your job. It does not require me.

> Rebuilding JP's?
Yamato: ...Were you not listening? It no longer requires JP's. You've proven that yourself.

> Meeting Polaris?
Yamato: ...Yes. I will lend my strength towards your ideals. And...

Yamato: I have to make sure whether or not the world you're going to create will be a good one.
Yamato: Heh... Are you surprised? I only fought you because I want what's best for the world.
Yamato: And to see whether a world even better than my own ideals will unfold...
Yamato: That is my last task as the head of the Hotsuin clan... No. As myself.
Yamato: Until then, I sill fight alongside you. ...Don't disappoint me.

Yamato walks away quietly...

[You get this event regardless of whether Yamato is in your party or not.]
At Ebisu Bridge [Nanba - Ebisu Bridge]
A man lying on the ground is talking to Yamato...

Dying Man: H-Hey you... Do you think I'll survive...?

Yamato: ......

Dying Man: Tell me honestly... I'm not going to survive this wound, am I...?

Yamato: ...Probably not. I'm astonished that you're still breathing at this point.

Dying Man: Hahahaha... You sure don't beat around the bush... But I did ask you to be honest.

Yamato: ...Was it a demon...?

Dying Man: Yeah...
Dying Man: Hey... Can you look in my pocket?

Yamato: ...?

Yamato searches the man's pockets, and turns up a piece of candy.

Yamato: What's this?

Dying Man: I wanted to give that to my daughter... but I guess that's impossible now.
Dying Man: So... I'm giving it to you. Heh... I know it's not much...

Yamato: ...What?

Dying Man: It's no use if I hang on to it... Please, take it...

Yamato: ...Impossible. Do you know who I am?

Dying Man: JP's, right? I know... I've seen you before...
Dying Man: But it doesn't matter anymore. No point in fighting... or hating...
Dying Man: Those who survive... should survive... and that's okay...
Dying Man: I'm... incompetent at my company... and of course I can't survive... It's my fault.

Yamato: ......

Dying Man: I wish I could see my daughter... I'd see her... and together...

The man takes his last breath...

Yamato: ...... Incompetent, huh?

Yamato looks down at the candy in his hand...

Yamato: Hiro... Do you believe I have the right to be carrying this?

> Yes.
Yamato: ...I see. I don't know. Is it too late to understand how civilians think?

> No.
Yamato: ...I see. I thought so. Is it too late to understand how civilians think?

Yamato: ......

Yamato silently walks away...
