[Relationships] Tyler >> Trian
Since I started with the Trian >> Tyler relationship, it's only fair I do the other part of it. Incomplete for now because of homework TT 3TT
I think
isnotporno is right about their relationship being unbalanced D:
Trian...means a lot to Tyler. That said, despite the sobness happening in Deadly Enchantment (I should really rewrite that, it's screwing over my arguments), if Trian did something really stupid like get himself killed or run off and never return or fall in love with another woman (yes Trian defines himself as straight and him 'falling in love' is never going to happen stupid asexual characters) or DIE BEFORE TYLER DOES D: Tyler would be able to move on. Pretty quickly. Yes, he would still remember the idiot, and still mull over the memories, but it'd be like drinking (light chinese?) tea; sweet with a subtle bitter tang, quickly finished.
He, too, also partly views Trian as an obligation. He feels that it's his duty to the Lizrays to make sure Trian gets things done on time/doesn't do anything spazztastic. This only adds to Trian not having experienced any independence (as in everything's pretty much done for him). When Trian left for Geffen, Tyler also felt a little relief from this 'duty', but unlike Trian, Tyler was able to appreciate some kind of independence and what Trian has done for him over the past years (even if they were done out of obligation). When Trian was gone, this was the time Tyler began to start searching for a greater sense of self. I suppose pre-Geffen, Tyler was mostly identified as that blind guy (his complexion is darker than what's usually associated with Yunoans), and he pretty much identified himself as Trian's caretaker (although that goes both ways really). Take Trian away...and then what?
I need to remember, Tyler's identity isn't governed by Trian.
Hm, I suppose Tyler goes by the philosophy that "Love is given, not taken". That's probably inaccurate, but that's the best way I can describe it at the moment. He...doesn't really care that Trian is so self-absorbed; Tyler believes the only way he can really change Trian is by example. Tyler understands these things can take a long time, but...well...they have a lot of time.
Tyler's happiness isn't dependent on Trian. Sometimes he's alone, but that doesn't mean he's lonely. Tyler is...there to give. He gives because he believes in what comes around goes around, karma, that kind of stuff. Even if the person he's kind to doesn't return the favour (*coughTriancough*), he's certain someone else will return the kindness. This currently suggests that Tyler treats everyone with equal amounts of kindness and caring, while being mostly true, It's kind of obvious that Trian means a bit more to him than that (familial relationship doesn't count).
So, why? Gratitude definitely forms part of it, but I'm sure it's more than that. Maybe Tyler loves (hesitating to use this word since it implies romance and sex, which are two things their relationship does not have) Trian just because (kudos to you BB), similar to how you can have a best friend but know they're horribly flawed. I...personally don't understand the concept of 'best friends', because I can't rank people, which could be why I don't understand why Tyler is able to rank Trian higher than anyone else. I guess it's a 'just because' thing.
Does he want anything from Trian? I...can't say he really wants anything, given his above way of thinking. The closest that would come to it would be that he wants Trian to be happy.
