LAST DISSIDIA SPAM... FOR NOW
I got a B+ on my piano exam! This is really hard to get in 8th Grade apparently, relative equivalent of an A in 6th Grade! Supposedly my piano teacher got a B in hers * A*
Destiny Odyssey
I like a lot of things about Bartz aesthetically. He's lanky (I forgot that was one of my weaknesses ;; ) and dorky and his running (away) animation is the best thing ever and I like how he imitates the voices of the original users of his attacks. However, I couldn't quite get into using him, and I think that's primarily because of the skills I had available to me. Not having a decent HP attack made it really hard to win tough battles (I didn't know about Goblin Punch until after) and Golbez still makes me cry like a little girl.
Terra was interesting since it's the first time I got to play a mid-long range fighter, and while I'm ok at her, I don't think I enjoy playing her. Casters vs casters takes forever 8|
WARRIOR OF LIGHT'S STORYLINE IS MEAN. Why would you be nice in all the other storylines and then suddenly go LOL LET'S MAKE THE MANDATORY BATTLES BE AGAINST ENEMIES DOUBLE HIS LEVEL asdf;lj. I don't think I really got the hang of using him, but somehow the AI manages to make him surprisingly fast on his feet.
So basically my current characters that I really like to play are Onion Knight, Zidane and Tidus.
Shade Impulse
Firstly, every Chaos warrior (including Chaos himself) except Golbez makes fun of Onion Knight's age.
I picked up Onion Knight again for Shade Impulse because I wanted to get better at him, and I really like his fast movement speed okay ;; At some point, an extra jump got made available to him, but I don't think he needs it, since his triple jump is more than adequate for aerial combat. I also finally got brave-HP attacks, which made everything 100% easier. I tend to use a lot of chase sequences, even though generally it's not really a good idea for Onion Knight, because he has a lot more to lose (his damage is usually around 2-5x less than if whoever I'm fighting lands a hit). However, the AI is ridiculously stupid about them, because with the right timing, you can just continuously kick them across the stage, which is what I've been doing to make up for Onion Knight's less than stellar damage. Hell, at several points I was seeing 1s and 0s in my attacks.
Every same-level battle in Shade Impulse was an uphill battle because of the massive damage difference, and I didn't even bother trying with the overlevel manikins because while it's possible for me to win, when all my attacks do 1 damage and theirs do 300 per hit, I'd rather not waste my time on an exercise in frustration. Onion Knight really does force you to fight intelligently and most of the time you're better off chipping away at an enemy's health than to go for stacking bravery, which can be a bit of a pain because taking advantage of the ridiculous stage bravery in the Chaos stages is difficult. BUT I GUESS THAT'S KIND OF IN CHARACTER RIGHT? RIGHT? There's a distinct sense of oh god I can get squashed in the blink of an eye all the time it's terrifying and exhilarating at the same time.
I have to say that Shade Impulse got downright mean about some enemy placements though. The one that stood out most to me was when a treasure chest was blocking the only path to the Stigma of Chaos. The catch? An overlevel manikin adjacent to the square you have to be on to open the chest. Not only that, I did not have Blink or Invisible on my skill list, and I didn't have Jump yet. THANKS, SQUARE.
Also, Emperor in Pandemonium + CAMERA SCREW ALL THE TIME is the worst. THE WORST. (p.s. I would pay good money to see Warrior of Light headbutt the Emperor).
God Firion's crystal is ridiculously pink.
OKAY SO. LIKE. I GOT UP TO CHAOS. OH MY GOD WHAT. WHAT KIND OF CHEAP BASTARD IS THIS GUY ANYWAY. My gear is not particularly great and brave damage with OK is like... 2 per hit while Chaos is hitting me for 30s to hundreds per hit in a combo. I don't have decent summons because I kind of didn't go and back track through the destiny odyssey since I figured I had to finish the main game like RIGHT NOW before exams. I wasn't expecting Chaos to be so cheap! So. level 54 Onion Knight vs level 48 Chaos in 3 stages, and the only option is to spam HP attacks. Or in my case, Brave-HP attacks.
The thing about Chaos aside from his cheap attacks is that you can't actually use Onion Knight's ground Brave-HP attack on him (I only have one) because it flings Chaos into the wall, and before Onion Knight has finished recovering from the attack, Chaos punches you. Even if you dodge to recover quicker, Chaos has so much range you get hit anyway. In general, Chaos punishes imperfection mercilessly, and because of Onion Knight's slow recovery nature, you can imagine that this is absolutely brutal. Chat knows all about my swearing and tableflipping over the Chaos fight. I had my own summon dick me over by throwing off my timing orz.
Nevertheless, I beat the shit out of Chaos with plenty of health to spare.
It took about 2.5 hours of trial and error (helped by
levikitty's helpful advice) before I channelled my inner awesome and pulled off a perfect round 1 and 2 against chaos and managed to give him a DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS in round 3.
So, it turns out that Chaos is much less of a threat in the air. All his bravery moves in the air are blockable and don't stagger you, and it seems the only HP moves he could use against me in the air was Divine Punishment, Soul of Oblivion and Demonsdance. The key is having reverse air dash so it's easier to stay at a comfortable height above him (once you actually get height on him, anyway. For Onion Knight, that is his aerial Brave-Hp attack). You don't want to stay at the maximum height, especially in 2nd and 3rd phase, because that will get you killed by Demonsdance's final hit, as well as that massive spinny bravery attack. Demonsdance is easy to dodge once you have the timing down for the first 4 attacks. You still need to maintain your height off the ground (it's harder to dodge on the ground, I find), so after each dodge, you're gonna need to jump as well. So it becomes an easy one-two timing between dodge and jump for the first four. Buuut on the last hit, he comes from above, so you just let yourself fall, and bam! Easy Demonsdance dodge.
The hardest bit honestly is getting the height off the ground. Even if Chaos is being stubborn and staying on the ground once you're in the air, you want to lure him towards you. He'll generally dash right towards you and immediately swing into an attack you can block and punish (preferably an attack that sends him to the ground) so he becomes a lot easier to counter that way. You can get hit by Scarlet Rain in the air, though, and I got hit by it twice. I never figured out how to dodge it, since those two times were the first time I saw it, and it was during the round I beat Chaos.
In general, I didn't get to see that much of the 3rd phase because I only made it to the 3rd phase, like, 3 times ever (I DIED TO A CUTSCENE??), and since I punished every attack Chaos made in the air (~700 damage per hit), the fight didn't last very long.
I have no idea how I'm going to fare with him with the other characters not called Zidane, though.
AFTER I BEAT CHAOS, I THINK I WAS TOO INCOHERENT THAT I ACTUALLY BEAT HIM THAT ALL THAT REGISTERED WAS ME AND KEYSMASH ASDFLHG;ASDF.
