RO Third Classes
OKAY so I just looked at the 3rd Classes for RO and my general feeling towards them is :|
I ADMIT that I would be SIGNIFICANTLY less :| about them if the sprites were less butt ugly (I think it's a different designer for the official art anyway? Like the drawing and colouring style seem sort of consistent with the previous ones, but the designs and colour choices seem different from the previous designs). But now I'm stuck in this precarious position, where my sense of aesthetics is at odds with my need for my character to be at their optimum gameplay wise (broadly speaking. I'm too lazy to really optimise stats and equipment).
I guess my gameplay issues with third classes (not counting the huge fucking aesthetic beef) is the beef people had with the rebirth classes. With rebirth characters, there was the 25% HP/SP increase, 20 bonus job stats (from 20 extra job levels), +100 stat points, and bonus skills. Now, with third classes, there's max level 150/50 (THAT'S FIFTY ONE FUCKING MORE BASE LEVELS WHAT THE HELL), max 120 points into each stat and additional 3rd class exclusive skills. And if they rebirthed before changing to third class, they keep the +25% HP/SP as well as ability to put skill points in the rebirth skills. R-ranger gets a wolf mount finally
I mean, the only real gameplay drawback I can see that the third classes will have is that they'll have many skills to put into, but not enough skill points for many. But I suppose that's what specialisation is for, and as it is, some classes have more skill points than they know what to do with (sniper??). I haven't looked at all the skills of the third classes yet (and details of 3rd classes are subject to change so I guess I could always hope that at least third classes get 120/50 levels instead of 150/50 wtf), but idk to me it kind of seems that even if you just stayed rebirth for the 70 skill points instead of 50 so that you can have a more varied use, your stats (and skills?) are just... going to be so lacking compared to the third classes that it might just not be worth it.
FOR THE RECORD if/when third classes are implemented, I'm definitely keeping Buckshot, Nighteyes, Gatecrasher and Butterfingers as their current classes ;; I might make a female ranger and I'm considering making Keilith, Keithy and Chun Li third classes... but ;;
I guess it doesn't really help that most of my in game characters are also story characters, and there just... is no such thing as a third class in my mythos. And they just don't make sense in context, because... they're... better than Transcendants?? And I guess it doesn't really help that a couple of the third class story wise have different roles to their predecessors. See Wizards vs Warlocks, Blacksmiths vs Mechanics. Like, story-wise at least, it makes more sense if a mage -> warlock, and a merchant -> mechanic (although I've been a bit iffy on merchants but I won't get into that). I GUESS part of this is character snobbery, since I'm rather attached to my character names, but can't really imagine them in a class outside of the class I've already made them in the story and have no wish to. Hence the characters I'm willing to make into a class they're not in canon, is because I don't... really write them as much, that I'm less attached to.
I mean, Keilith's only supposed to be an alchemist, but I'm okay with rebirthing him. And changing him to third job when it comes down to it. But I think that's because there is no way I'm making a third alchemist on the same server wtf man. Keithy's only been featured in what, two drabbles? And his role is pretty much as the helpful priestly figure, so his character is less attached to the level of his job class, and more his attitude. And Chun Li doesn't even belong to me so... yeah.
Kind of surprised I haven't made my gay mages in game, but at the same time, not really surprised either. I don't really find wizards fun to play, and I'd find sages more fun to play if I didn't have retarded lag and a problem where I click and sometimes the client doesn't register it :<

Although I guess part of it is an issue where most of the 'stories' are just... the story of certain characters' lives, which can be pretty boring to people, I guess! And because of the nature of said characters, there isn't really any (external) conflict. Most conflict is primarily internal. See:
- Bucky: inferiority complex, doormat nature (esp. next to his twin sister), and later, coming to terms that he just got fucked over trying to save his sister and can never shoot a bow again.
- Trian:everything, superiority complex, pride, paranoia, love.
- Tyler: inferiority complex, love.
- Adrianna: inability to accept the death of a loved one.
- NightEyes: inability to tell the difference between right and wrong, inability to restrain himself from doing what he wants in favour of doing what's right.
- (minor, only been in one story) Grace: directionless in life, has no goal, has the ability to be good at anything if she focused in it, but doesn't really want to. Pretty much where I'm at IRL, really.
I guess a big part of why I kind of find that my characters' stories would be boring to other people is that these internal conflicts often don't come in conflict with other characters, with the exception of Trian and Tyler (and technically Bucky and his twin sister, Miara but... I tend to hold back on writing her since she's not originally mine but I guess I should get over that), which makes the conflict highly contained. I guess ! Maybe I should try creating more characters (or like, develop the various side characters more) and arrange what happens in the stories better :|a and actually fill in the many and various holes they have ;;
Character List (for my own reference, because man I don't remember everyone ;; )
- Buck and Miara Choi: archers -> hunters -> snipers (is the sniper-hood actually necessary?). Payonese. Gained falcon and wolf. They used to have a Bongun and Munak but debating if I should still keep that. Parents are... a Pronteran rogue and a Payonese knight?? New archers who went to travel the world!!1!1! (gives them a lot of opportunity to run into other characters) At some point, Bucky gets his arm omnomnomed. Bucky is considered a bit of a shame to Payonese community after his 'rebirth' because. lol sniper who can't use a bow. They managed to forge a peace treaty between the orcs, kobolds, goblins and Geffen. Both are hermits out in the forest after that.
- Yeon: a young archer Bucky managed to help :3
- NightEyes (Themofast): thief -> rogue -> stalker (is him becoming a stalker actually necessary? It was used a shock factor for Lise but...). Lutie born, but grew up in Morroc(??????????), ended up leaving Morroc for the first time when Buck and Miara dropped in. HARRASSED THEM before disappearing and then harassing them again. Got accidentally shot by Bucky (causing Bucky to get super shaken for a long while afterwards), somehow!!got hold of Grimtooth and made a pact with it and somehow!!!ended up marrying Adrianna. Died to Incantation Samurai during their honeymoon in Amatsu. Became a ghost, fucked way more than he should've. Was finally exorcised by Lise. He's supposed to be Lorianne and Keilith's bastard child, but idk if that's necessary? especially given lol Lutie -> Morroc wtf. His story may be better if he was Morroc born.
- Poing: poring -> angeling. I kind of. wonder at the point of Poing, actually, since he's really a pet/guardian blob ): BUT HE'S CUTE and horrible at the same time so I guess he'll stay. But he was kind of ineffectual at protecting his owners, huh :| Passed from Lorianne -> NightEyes -> Adrianna -> PORINGS/DROPS/POPORINGS/MARINS ETC.
- Rai'den: assassin. 'Friend' of Night's. Tends to use Night as training for new guild recruits.
- Grimtooth: Sentient dagger. Doesn't understand what it means to be alive. Just wants to die ):
- Adrianna Irylis: alchemist -> biochemist. Born in Al de baran. Was researching into homunculus or something when she found Keilith's notes, but some were missing. Met NightEyes. Somehow!!1!1got married. When Night died, she became obsessive in completing the homunculus research, somehow!!1! created the Lighthalzen Biolabs. She personally never finished the homunculus research (some kind of disease killed her), but her research continued and homunculi were created 70? MANY years after her death. MORE ON THAT LATER.
- Lorianne Sharielerin (sob I had to look up her last name): swordie -> knight. Pronteran. Too fucking uncontrollable and a goddamned beserker. So she got booted and goes travelling. TECHNICALLY Poing belongs to her! Helps Keilith out in Al de Baran, and they both travel some more until they somehow end up in Lutie. Somehow!1!LOVE?? and they pop a kid. Shortly after, out in the snowfields, she dies to a Garm, but not without taking it down with her.
- Keilith Themofast: Was researching into homunculus, and persecuted for it! Repeatedly slept with the alchemist guild leader so he could continue his research, but the one time he stood up to her (around the time Lorianne arrived), he lost it all in an arson attack. It was claimed it was a stray cigarrette stub (Keilith is a smoker, and doesn't have good lungs as a result). Joined Lorianne in her travels, both eventually ending up in Lutie blah blah Lorianne dies, he dies shortly after of heartbreak?? (but he still has a kid?? maybe he didn't really care for the child, just her? Keilith and Lorianne aren't exactly the most outstanding citizens).
- Trian Lizray: acolyte -> mage -> wizard -> high wizard. Yuno born. I originally said this guy was an acolyte in the Pronteran church (because of his parents), but in hindsight I guess it doesn't really make sense, when I have a Yuno church :|a But yeah, was going to follow in his parents' footsteps and pick a holy path, buuut he didn't do very well in it. Magic Stream said 'sup, and persuaded him to change to a mage. Around that time, Tyler came into his life. They both passed the mage test, Trian went to become a wizard (despite most in Yuno becoming sages), got caught up in the Geffen War when Geffen was attacked by orcs, kobolds and goblins. Finished it with meteor storm buuut put himself into a coma. blah blah became a high wizard blah paranoia issues, bitching Tyler out, THINGS GO HERE!1! they make up. End up taking Buck and Miara in for a short time. Stuff. Then Biolabs?? IDEK he lived for way too long.
- Tyler Li: mage -> sage -> scholar. Comodo born. Blind. Abandoned as a child, picked up by Aleran. Loved by the Magic Stream, but still had difficulties with magic, especially compared to Trian, who simply breezed through it. So, ISSUES. And was subsequently taken advantage of by his sage teachers. He didn't know what happened after, since Aleran and Rosa didn't exactly give their kids the talk and lol blind, where most books in Yuno weren't written in Braille. STUFF. Ends up taking care of Trian when he's a vegetable. And I guess same things go here :|a
- Aleran Lizray: monk! Trian's dad, but not his biological dad ! Because. Impotent :|b At some point, aided in the sealing of Incantation Samurai?? has a sweet tooth. Friends with Xildali.
- Rosa (??? dunno her maiden name): battle priest! Trian's mum.
- Xildali (SOMETHING): Wizard, Trian's wizard tutor, also his biological father. Friend of Rosa and Aleran.
- Jasmine (???): dancer, Tyler's mum!
- Koren (???): d-d-dancer, Tyler's dad!
- Faith (???): priestess, yaoi fangirl, takes care of Trian and Tyler because they don't know how to do it themselves, is a pretty good friend to Tyler at least. Trian's kind of B| towards her.
- Misia (???): Head of sage council, super toppy, tops Faith, I guess?? SHE IS A DIRTY DIRTY WOMAN AND VERY HORRIBLE IN A GOOD WAY.
- Ami (???): Girl who lives in the library. IDK if I should keep her story as the girl born from a book (from Feralis) but ehh i don't really se a reason not to.
- Varya (???): Barkeep. Used to be a wizard in Geffen from a poor family. Had a crush on Trian when he was there that never really went away. When he returned to Yuno, she followed him there... but she had nothing. Previous barkeep took her in, though. And she works at the Café Soleil, where T&T go (almost) every day, but she doesn't feel the same way about him any more.
- Florian: son of the owner of a peco stable
- The Magic Stream: One of the deities of Rune-Midgard. Tends to take the shape of a snake. Is a dick.
- God: The other deity of Rune-Midgard. Is less of a dick.
- Ichiro: Amatsu prince. Thought Trian was a woman and proposed to him HAHAHAHAHAHA;lkajsdfhg.
- Gloria: woman who suffered great hardship, but never gave up, and became an angel or something??
- Carlos (???): bard, has a totally fluffy relationship with Illessa. Also known as GateCrasher (MAYBE?) when he MC's the Izlude battle arenas.
- Illessa (???): assassin -> dancer, has a totally fluffy relationship with Carlos. Used to be known as WindRider.
- Incantation Samurai (Ishikawa Kentarou): blah blah used to be a samurai serving the Amatsu royal family, buuut got dicked around one time too many? posessed the prince as a form of escaping death, killed Night, was exorcised by Lise.
- Lise Ravella: priestess who has a little too much cash to throw around, and uses the money to invesigate myths. Went to investigate the Tatami maze, encountered Incantation and was saved by Night. Ended up talking to Night more, and became... attached to him, as he became attached to her. Found out she looks like the late Adrianna, but it's like lol hundreds of years later so she's dead. Exorcised Incantation, and later Night, at his request.
- Cairn (assassin), Raile (knight), Haneul (hunter): Lise's hired mercenaries when she went to investigate the Tatami Maze :>
- Enves Tan'gari: WHO KNOWS. No one knows who this person is, but uhhhh master of information in Morroc, but their information web also reaches outside as well. Apparently Tan'gari is a name passed down??
- Feather: librarian friend of Lise's. Excellent memory, and dug up half the information about NightEyes.
- Grace: Super Novice!
- Keithy: Priest! That guy who's always nice. A bit like Tyler except his niceness comes from his faith.
BIOLABS KIDS
- Egnigem Cenia, Laurell Weinder, Armeyer Dinze, Errende Ebecee, Wikebine Tres, Kavach Icarus. Leader,whiner pessimist, bully, kind one, other bully, introvert. The only ones who are sentient in the biolabs.

- Kathryn Keyron: caused the first Ragnarok that caused Morroc to become a desert. batshit insane

Maybe I kind of need to rethink the whos and whys of my Transccendents. I'VE PROBABLY FORGOTTEN SOMEONE. not counting the misc characters I didn't name. Like the knight and his peco, who'd just. get mobbed by porings. All the time. and if it's not porings, it's thiefbugs.
Also, I was really tempted to buy the DVD sets for How I Met Your Mother ;;

- Illessa (???): assassin -> dancer, has a totally fluffy relationship with Carlos. Used to be known as WindRider.
- Incantation Samurai (Ishikawa Kentarou): blah blah used to be a samurai serving the Amatsu royal family, buuut got dicked around one time too many? posessed the prince as a form of escaping death, killed Night, was exorcised by Lise.
- Lise Ravella: priestess who has a little too much cash to throw around, and uses the money to invesigate myths. Went to investigate the Tatami maze, encountered Incantation and was saved by Night. Ended up talking to Night more, and became... attached to him, as he became attached to her. Found out she looks like the late Adrianna, but it's like lol hundreds of years later so she's dead. Exorcised Incantation, and later Night, at his request.
- Cairn (assassin), Raile (knight), Haneul (hunter): Lise's hired mercenaries when she went to investigate the Tatami Maze :>
- Enves Tan'gari: WHO KNOWS. No one knows who this person is, but uhhhh master of information in Morroc, but their information web also reaches outside as well. Apparently Tan'gari is a name passed down??
- Feather: librarian friend of Lise's. Excellent memory, and dug up half the information about NightEyes.
- Grace: Super Novice!
- Keithy: Priest! That guy who's always nice. A bit like Tyler except his niceness comes from his faith.
